If you would like to hear Diana Gabaldon, the bestselling author of such books as the OUTLANDER series (OUTLANDER, DRAGONFLY IN AMBER, VOYAGER, DRUMS OF AUTUMN, THE FIERY CROSS, and A BREATH OF SNOW AND ASHES), speak about her writing process, check out the following YouTube video:

Diana Gabaldon is one of those rare writers who can mesh romance with both science fiction and historical fact and do it well. Her OUTLANDER series tells the story of Jamie Fraser, a Scottish Highlander from the 18th century, and his time-traveling wife from the 20th century, Claire. Her LORD JOHN series also blends multiple writing niches to create compelling reading.
Because her work is so encompassing, it’s hard to pigeonhole into just one genre: paranormal romance? pure science fiction? historical drama? or ?? Let’s just say, whichever you prefer, you’ll probably enjoy her work as she does her research and brings it to life in her books. (Her own background includes earning a B.S. in Zoology, an M.S. in Marine Biology and Ph.D in Ecology, as well as having developed an expertise in the brand-new field of scientific computation (the use of computers to do scientific research–in botany, ecology, physiology, meteorology) back when microcomputers were just beginning to be used.)
Watch the video for her take on her own creative writing ideas and how she puts them all together. She also gives an interesting insight into how she prevents the age-old ‘writer’s block’…
